Ed Ruscha was famed for his paintings, photographs and collages in the 1960's and for his connection with the Ferus Gallery Group. From 1965 to 1969, he worked for Artforum magazine as a layout designer using "Eddie Russia" as his pen name. At the same time, he taught as a visiting professor at UCLA in 1969. In 1973, Ruscha had his very first solo exhibition which opened in February 1973 in Leo Castelli gallery in New York.
